€22 million funding for the Symbian foundation!

The Symbian Foundation received a €22 million funding injection last week from the European Commission. The announcement will provide a much needed boost to the mobile operating platform, which has been hit by job losses and speculation over its future recently, as Nokia, its owner and key funder, seeks to cut its expenditure.
The project will become known as SYMBEOSE, meaning ‘Symbian – the Embedded Operating System for Europe’. Under the terms of the agreement with the EC, the Artemis initiative will match the investment made by the consortium, providing the other half of the required funding in order to meet the full cost of the SYMBEOSE development project.
